Natural and Recreational Resources in Caroline County

Natural and
Recreational
Resources:

Caroline County enjoys four large, under-utilized natural and recreational areas:

  • Tuckahoe State Park lies in the valley of Tuckahoe Creek, which straddles the boundary between Caroline County and Queen Anne’s County.  The park includes mainly riverine and marshland wildlife habitats with walking trails.  The Adkins Arboretum, located here, is a regional research and interpretation center for environmental studies.

  •  Martinak State Park is a small recreational facility south of Denton.  Occupying land donated to the state, the park includes many camping facilities, a boat ramp on the Choptank River, and an early 20th-century cabin built by the original owner as a hunting lodge.

  • Idylwild Wildlife Management Area lies northeast of Federalsburg and occupies 570 acres.

  • Choptank River Marina and Choptank River Fishing Pier, located in southwestern Caroline County, is a state waterfront park with fishing facilities and a public landing.

Other areas of regional or local importance:

  • Christian Park
  • Greensboro Boat Ramp
  • Dan Crouse Park/Denton Natural Area
  • Ganey’s Wharf
  • Federalsburg Marina Park.
